Frequency-averaged opacities for plasmas with arbitrary optical thickness

Abstract

A new definition of a frequency-averaged opacity is given for plasmas with arbitrary optical thickness. Unlike in the case of the Planck and Rosseland mean opacities, no preliminary assessment of the optical depth is needed.
