Fracture mechanical characterization and damage zone development in glass fibre mat-reinforced thermoplastics

Abstract

The fracture values and damage zone development in composites reinforced with a glass-fibre mat and having a polypropylene matrix are determined by monitoring the acoustic emission and using light microscopy. Fracture toughness and initiation fracture energy decrease with an increase in the fibre mat contents.
