Four-wave mixing in Bi2TeO5 crystals induced by picosecond laser pulses

Abstract

Refractive index gratings were written by 18 ps laser pulses in a new photorefractive material Bi2TeO5. The time evolutions of the gratings were followed by delayed probe pulses out to 2 ns. Several different components were identified in the signal decay in this time regime. Both one-and two-photon absorption were considered to describe the excitation process. Bound charge polarization, free charge carriers, acoustic phonons, and a limited electro-optical contribution were identified in the photo-induced gratings.
