Abstract

The authors investigated the possible short and long term side effects of antenatal steroid exposure of off-springs up to the age of 16 years. One hundred and thirteen infants whose mothers received antenatal steroid prophylaxis to prevent RDS were examined by a team of paediatrician, neurologist and psychologist at the age of 6, 12, 24 months and 16 years and the findings were compared to those of 89 unexposed children. The weight, height, head circumfrence, mental development, neurological status and outcome, social behaviour and illnesses during the 16 years' period were recorded and analyzed.
