Fluctuating micelles: a theory of surfactant aggregation 2. Ionic surfactants

Abstract

Ionic micelle formation was treated by small system thermodynamics. The electrical free energy of micelles was calculated from the Goüy-Chapman model by numerical solution of the PB (Poisson-Boltzmann) equation. It was concluded that the finite size of the ionic micelles can not be interpreted only by electrostatic interactions. Diffuse monolayer structure is suggested for the ionic micelles instead of the idealized Goüy-Chapman model.
