Abstract

Fine structural localization of i.p. injected 14C hemicholinium 3 was studied in motor end plates of the flexor digitorum muscle of the rat by means of electron microscope radioautography. Reduced silver grains were found in lemmoblastic and teloglial Schwann cells, in the sole plate and in both longitudinal and transversal tubuli of the sarcotubular system. Absence of grains from axoterminal structures is interpreted as a sign of the important role of satellite elements in transporting and activating choline for the acetylcholine synthesizing machinery of the axon terminal.
