Abstract

The abnormal lipid accumulation of the parenchymal cells in the liver is called fatty liver. In the background of this disease the imbalance of the process in fat accumulation and fat consumption stands: this way the over-production of triglycerids is accumulated in the hepatocytes. Normally 5% of the cells contain triglycerides, but this value can increase over 50% in fatty liver. It is called fatty infiltration under 50%, and fatty liver over 50%. This alteration does not cause cell function dysturbancy in mild forms, but in severe forms, yes. In many cases it is the first signal of cell necrosis. The fatty liver can be respected which makes the liver sensible to other toxic effects. It is not a genuine disease, in many cases it is part of some pathologic process. In the first phase (till the development of fibrosis) it is reversible, when the inducing cause disappears, the liver cleans out the overproduction of triglycerides. In the treatment the basic process should be handled. Till now no specific medicine is known which is able to decrease the fat accumulated in the hepatocytes.
