Experimental study of the electrocatalytic behaviour of tungsten carbide reduction of perchlorate ions

Abstract

The catalytic and electrochemical reduction of perchlorate ions has been studied using tungsten carbide powder. The rate of catalytic hydrogenation has been studied at different temperatures, hydrogen ion and ClO4 - concentrations. A rate equation obtained from the experimental results is given. It has been shown that results obtained from steady state polarization measurements carried out under different experimental conditions do not allow the existence of a simple rate determining step in the reduction process to be assumed.
