Abstract

Pelvicol has been applied by authors since 2003 to treat urinary stress incontinence patients. This collagen implant is inserted into the anterior vaginal wall during kolpoperineorrhaphy. Until now the authors have used this method in 23 cases. Continence reverted following surgery in all cases. On 2 occasions, urinary tract infection complicated the postoperative period, however it was treated successfully using a culture-sensitivity based antibiotic therapy. In 1 case dysuria followed which was eliminated by an appropriate medication. Upon follow-up examinations 1 and 6 months after surgery, all the patients were free of complaints and no signs of implant rejection could be detected. Based on our favourable results we strongly recommend the use of this surgical method in case of urinary stress incontinence.
