Excitation function of 22Ne(p,n)22Na reaction: Possibility of production of 22Na at a small cyclotron

The excitation function of the 22Ne(p,n)22 Na reaction was determined up to 17.3 MeV using the "stacked gas cell" technique. From the measured cross sections the integral yield of 22Na was deduced. The optimum energy range for production was found to be Ep= 15→6 MeV, the 22Na yield amounting to 304 kBq (8.2 μCi)/μAh. A comparison of the various production routes is given. The 22Ne(p,n)22Na process is ideally suited for production of 22Na at a small cyclotron.
