Intramitochondrial inclusions found in liver biopsy material of Gilbert disease patients were studied in ultra thin sections by the aid of enzyme treatment. It was observed that intramitochondrial filaments are very sensitive to pepsin, moderately sensitive to pronase and indifferent to trypsin. On the base of these results the authors concluded that intramitochondrial inclusions are mainly built up of protein like materials.
