Exact optimal layout of grillages for partially upward and partially downward loading

Abstract

The theory of the exact optimal layout of grillages (beam systems) of given depth is extended to partially upward and partially downward loading. Closed form analytical expressions are obtained for the optimal layout and the theory is illustrated with several examples.
