Abstract

Carburization and decarburization of nickel was investigated by a resistance relaxation method at 1140 and 1220 K. At high carbon activities, the existence of a surface reconstruction process is deduced from the kinetic studies. Rate constants for the decarburization are determined on both kinds of surfaces.
