Evidence for alkenyl carbocation formation during interaction of butenes with HNaY zeolites

Abstract

The formation of alkenyl-type carbocations during the transformation of but-1-ene on HNaY zeolites was studied. Immediately after admission of the adsorbate at room temperature, allyl carbenium ions were formed in the zeolite cavities. With longer time of contact or at elevated temperatures, polyenyl carbocations could be detected. Experimental evidence is given for the occurrence of alkenyl ions in the course of the reaction of but-1-ene over HNaY zeolites.
