Abstract

The intensive anthropogenic activities that followed the Great Flood of 1879 caused significant changes in the physical, chemical and biological properties of the soils in and around Szeged. Samples were taken from various horizons of soil profiles at 25 sites in order to examine physical and chemical soil properties, while topsoil samples were taken at 10 sites to survey the mesofauna in three zones (inner city, suburban, peripheral).
