Abstract

EUROCRAN programme - for better understanding of the pathomechanisms of craniofacial anomalies and their primary prevention - is being launched in February 2003. Hungary may also participate in this project, financed by the appointed competent institution of the EU. In order to achieve success it would be of utmost importance to enroll all children born in 2003-2004 by the congenital anomaly of cleft lip or in combination with cleft palate as the laboratory investigation of genetic and environmental markers would lead to a higher standard patient care-level. The purpose of this information is to introduce the EURO-CRAN-project as well as to report the frequency of craniofacial anomalies in Hungary at present and last but not least to report the various researc projects running at present in our country.
