The adenohypophyscs of senile female rats were studied with the electron microscope. The results are indicative of a fairly high degree of hormone-producing and secreting activity in the anterior pituitary gland, especially in the gonadotropic cells of rats, at the upper limit of age, typical of the species. The authors describe some ultrastructural characteristics of ageing adenohypophyseal cells with special reference to cytoplasmic inclusions.
