ELASTIC MODULI AND STABILITY OF ANHARMONIC CRYSTALS.

Abstract

A self-consistent theory is developed for the temperature dependence of the elastic moduli of an anharmonic crystal. A long-wave method is used to derive a general expression for the elastic moduli and to consider the temperature dependences of the moduli of a simple fcc lattice with the nearest-neighbor interaction. In this case the ″soft mode″ does not appear at the point of dynamic instability of the lattice.
