Abstract

Efficient generation of subpicosecond free-space THz radiation by phase-matched optical rectification using ultrashort laser pulses with tilted pulse fronts was demonstrated. The power of the THz beam was determined by a liquid-He cooled Si bolometer. THz pulse energies as high as 98 pJ at a repetition rate of 200 kHz which corresponded to an average power of 20 μW were achieved.
