Effects of exogenous salicylic acid on growth and catalase enzyme in white mustard seedlings under heavy metal and salt stress

Abstract

Salicylic acid (SA) was an essential component of the plant resistance to pathogens and also plays an important role in mediating plant response to some abiotic stress. The possible effects of SA on the growth and catalase enzymes in white mustard seedlings under heavy metal and salt stress were studied. Experimental data were analyzed to determine the LC50 values and statistical tests were applied to evaluate the effects of different treatments. Our results showedthat The 1.0 mM SA solution had significantly reduced the effect of stress, especially at higher concentrations of heavy metal and NaCl. However, SA has no influence on the inhibition of CAT activities induced by metal and salt stress.
