Abstract

The effects of administration of ACTH on avoidance behaviour of intact and adrenalectomized rats were investigated. Enhancement of avoidance acquisition by a single injection of ACTH was found in the early phase of conditioning. Avoidance extinction was significantly delayed throughout in intact and adrenalectomized rats treated with short-acting ACTH for 14 days. Cessation of treatment led to a rapid fall in avoidance behaviour performance.
