Effective dielectric theory from QCD

Abstract

New effective fields are defined in QCD by averaging the phase factor P exp∫x0x0+ε{lunate}i Aμdxμ in small four-dimensional boxes. Their effective lagrangian is constructed explicitly for G=SU(2). It is a version of the dielectric theory proposed by 't Hooft, Kogut and Susskind. The classical electric flux-tube solution is analyzed quantitatively.
