Abstract

In this study the authors investigated the efficacy of the aromatase inhibitor anastrazole in treating endometrial hyperplasia and postmenopausal bleeding in an obese 65 years old woman. They administered anastrazole for 12 months to an obese postmenopausal woman with high operative risk. Prior to the aromatase inhibitor treatment progestin administration proved ineffective in this case. During the treatment period the endometrial thickness changed from 9.8 mm to 2.4 mm and the result of the control endometrial histology was endometrium - atrophy. In the investigated period there was no uterine bleeding. Aromatase inhibitor treatment appears to be a new treatment modality in endometrial hyperplasia in obese postmenopausal women.
