On the action of H2 in aqueous solutions, the water soluble analogue of Wilkinson's catalyst, [RhCl(tppms)3] [tppms=P(C 6H5)2(C6H4SO 3Na)], gives [RhH(tppms)3] instead of [RhH 2Cl(tppms)3] and this is reflected in the rates and selectivities of hydrogenations using this catalyst.
