Exogenous 3H 5HT is taken up quickly by the mast cells of the thyroid gland, and disappears with the same speed from the cells. The uptake and depletion are retarded in the mast cells of pinealectomized animals, resulting in an accumulation of serotonin. The streaming out of the labelled granules from the mast cells can be observed in both cases.
