Abstract

The second part of the publication presents the influence of sucking and weaning on certain digestion-physiological parameters. The pH value of the stomach content is between 5 and 6 after the birth, and after weaning it becomes less than 2, the value typical for matured animals. In case of the rabbits nursed by two does, pH value was higher for a longer period. The pH decreased from the time of the weaning. Rate of the decrease was influenced by rate and time of the feeding with solid feed. The pH value of the caecum content decreased after birth and the value typical for the adult animals was found after weaning. Decrease was slower in case of rabbits sucking twice a day. Feed with higher fibre content as well as antibiotic containing diet resulted in higher pH values. Double suckling before weaning resulted in less tVFA and acetic acid, but higher propionic acid content in the caecal chyme. In case of feeding on antibiotic containing diet, higher propionic acid rate within tVFA was observed, while in case of non medicated feed, butyric acid content was higher. In case of early weaning (at the age of twenty-one days) and even using non medicated diet, the temporary (and generally non-significant) changes occuring in digestion-physiological parameters did not result in diseases of the digestive system.
