Effect of cycloheximide on induced autophagy in epithelial cells of the seminal vesicle of mice

Abstract

Cycloheximide in a dose of 0.05 to 0.2 mg/g prevented the autophagy induced by 0.3 mg/g neutral red if administered 30 min before the dye treatment: prevention lasted for several hours. Sixteen hr after small doses (0.05 to 0.1 mg/g) and 24 hr after higher doses (0.2 mg/g) of cycloheximide the dye induced autophagy was as intense as in animals not pretreated with the drug. No ultrastructural changes in the cytoplasm were caused by cycloheximide alone.
