Effect of ϒ-Radiation on Supported Metal Catalysts of Cyclohexane Dehydrogenation

Abstract

The y-radiolysis of cyclohexane was studied in the presence of supported metal catalysts,0.6-8 % Pt/ϒ-Al203, 1 % Pt/MS-5A, 1 % Ni/ϒ-Al203 and 1 % Ni/MS-5A. The overall yield of fragment products of radiolysis remains the same in the presence and absence of catalysts. However, the selectivity of alkaneand alkene products changes significantly: the catalytic hydrogenation of alkenes produced by the irradiation is attributed to spill-over hydrogen migrating back from the support onto the metal.
