Dynamic origin of the orthorhombic symmetry of C60-n-pentane

Abstract

In this paper we present the results of single crystal x-ray diffraction experiments and molecular dynamics simulations on C60-n-pentane. This material is a typical C60-clathrate and shows orthorhombic symmetry at room temperature. We conclude that the orthorhombic symmetry can only be explained by the dynamics of both C60 and n-pentane molecules.
