Double-K-shell ionization of Mg and Si induced in collisions with C and Ne ions

Abstract

The high-resolution measurements of the K α spectra of Mg and Si, which were induced by collisions with 34-MeV C and 50-MeV Ne ions, were investigated. The projectile reduced velocities v/vK were found to be 1.09 and 0.92 for C ions and 1.02, 0.86 for Ne ions in case of Mg and Si targets. The decay schemes were also used to determine the state production yields from the measured photon yields. The ionization probabilities within the independent electron approximation were calculated by using single-electron ionization probabilities calculated within the three-body classical trajectory Monte Carlo method.
