Abstract

A radioimmunoassay was used to identify and quantify somatostatin-like immunoreactivity in the lower brainstem of the rat. The peptide was detectable in all brainstem nuclei investigated. Highest levels were found in the nuclei parabrachiales, central gray, ocus coeruleus, and nucleus tractus solitarii. Extremely low levels were found in the substantia nigra and cerebellum.
