The recent prediction of diabolic pair transfer depends on the use of a two-parameter cranked HFB hamiltonian H(λ, ω) where λ is the Fermi energy and ω the cranking frequency (both continuous). We show that the phenomenon is also present with a pairing hamiltonian whose eigenstates have good particle number throughout, and demonstrate how this quantity may still be treated as a continuous variable. We give a simple explanation of the number of zeros in the pair-transfer matrix elements.
