Abstract

The authors studied the behavior of alpha -brass in aerated weakly acid chloride solution. By a radiometric method they investigated the kinetics of the partial processes of solution of the components of the brass, and by Mossbauer spectroscopy they determined the composition of the tin compounds on its surface. They show that at t less than equivalent to 10 min Zn and Sn are dissolved separately; Zn goes into solution in proportion to its content in the alloy, but Sn accumulates on the surface, mainly as SnO//2.
