Development of 18 GHz NIRS electron cyclotron resonance ion source with high-voltage extraction configuration

Abstract

An 18 GHz ion source with high-voltage extraction configuration (NIRS-HEC) has been developed. The effectiveness of this configuration has been tested by measuring extracted beam currents at different current densities and extraction voltages. Helium has been used for the measurement. The results show that the intensity of highly charged ions is improved in comparison to NIRS-ECR. The strong magnetic confinement seems mainly effective. Both the experimental and calculation results show that the high extraction voltage is also effective for obtaining the high extracted current intensity.
