Determination of the spinodal temperature in a series of Al-Zn (6–21 at.%)alloys

Abstract

An in situ X-ray small-angle scattering technique has been developed on the basis of which the spinodal temperature was determined experimentally with fairly high. precision in a series of Al-Zn alloys. The spinodal curve was found to lie at higher temperatures than the one determined by Cahn (1968), though it can be well extrapolated to the spinodal temperature at the critical composition where Cahn's and the present spinodal have a common point with the same tangent.
