The gas-liquid interfacial area of a laboratory perforated plate under cross flow operation is measured by the absorption method with chemical reaction. The novelty of the work lies in the range of gas velocities which have been used (from 0. 4 up to 2 m/s) and in the measurement of mass transfers at constant emulsion height for whatever gas velocity. The influence of gas and liquid velocities of the emulsion height and of the holdup has been studied. Finally two empirical correlations based upon experimental results are proposed to predict with a plus or minus 15% accuracy the interfacial area value in the range of high gas velocities.
