PAS positive cells of rat thymus take up iodine 125 in tissue cultures. In thymic cultures of newborn and 15 day old rats iodine uptake is higher than at an older age. Experiments indicate that besides thyroid other derivatives of the foregut entoderm are capable of iodine uptake, thus supporting the concept that the Gomori and PAS positive cells of the thymus are endocrine representatives.
