Design parameters of an electrostatic analyser for recording the energy and angular distribution of positrons and electrons simultaneously

The calculated electron-optical properties of a special cylindrical mirror analyser are presented. The analyser consists of three concentric cylinders and is capable of separating and simultaneously analysing the energy and angular distribution of incoming positrons and electrons. It is shown that the analyser has second-order focusing properties with remarkable dispersion. The optimal design parameters are presented for three variations. The lineshape, the active length of the source and the range of the entrance solid angle are investigated for an extended source. The different modes of operation are discussed.
