Abstract

A feasibility methodology has been developed to treat consecutive equilibrium limited reactions with three or more components and complex column configurations including reactive and non-reactive distillation in batch rectifier, middle-vessel column, and stripper. The new feasibility study is applied to transesterification of dimethyl carbonate in two reversible cascade reactions via methyl ethyl carbonate as intermediate in batch reactive distillation (BRD) process. An adequate model in gPROMS environment is being created for the conceptual design of batch reactive rectifier.
