Design of a waveguide structure-based electron source using THz pulses

Abstract

THz pulse-based particle manipulation [1, 2] and acceleration in vacuum [3], in waveguide [4], and in LINAC [5] have been developed and realized in recent years. Here we present the result of numerical investigation of a waveguide-structure based, THz driven electron accelerator setup. Electron bunch acceleration from rest up to a few tens of keV was predicted with ultra-narrow energy spread (~ 0.2 %) and ultrashort (~130 fs) beam duration [6].
