Abstract

The unit works on the principle of sampling and connects a magnetic mass spectrometer joined up with a gas chromatograph (GC-MS system) to a minicomputer, type PDP-11. Based on the (16 byte) microprocessor Motorola 68 000, it can be programmed flexibly and thus, can be used also for collecting automated data from special mass spectrometric and other measurements, beside the normal spectrum data. During measurement and data collecting, optional evaluation tasks can be carried out on a central computer in the operational system RSX 11M. According to experience, the interface unit proves to be quick enough for modern capillary GC-MS measurements with a significant improvement of sensitivity.
