Density-dependent effective action for electron systems

The density-dependent effective action is introduced as the generalization of the density functional. The one-loop approximation offers an iterative, perturbative solution of the Hartree-Fock equations by turning on the Coulomb interaction gradually. A renormalization group evolution equation for the density-dependent effective action is proposed, enabling one to systematically improve the description of the nonrelativistic electron system beyond the one-loop level.
