Abstract

The allowed and forbidden binary cluster configurations of the ground, superdeformed, and hyperdeformed slates of some nuclei are determined, based on the (real or effective) U(3) selection rule. The stability of the cluster configurations from the viewpoint of the binding energy is also investigated.
