The decay of the electroconvection patterns was theoretically and experimentally analyzed using a nematic liquid crystal. The decay rates were measured in a white wave number range. It was also observed that a theoretical analysis exhibited a rich structure of the dispersion curves for the decay rates. It was found that experimentally determined relaxation rates for both conductive and dielectric initial patterns followed the theorectical solution with subsequent jumps between branches.
