Enzymatic hydrolysates of highly purified RNA from tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) were analyzed for cytokinin activity by tobacco and soybean callus bioassays after extracting the hydrolysates with water-saturated n-butanol and separating the components by column or paper chromatography. The chromatographic properties of the active components suggested that they are the different forms of zeatin and N6-(Δ2-isopentenyl)-adenine.
