Correlation between nuclear radii and binding energies for light nuclei

Abstract

Deviations of measured total neutron cross sections from the "black-nucleus" formula were investigated for light nuclei. Similar trends in electrical charge radii suggest that the deviations are caused by variations in the nuclear radius parameter, r0. It was found that a correlation exists between r0 and the binding energy per nucleon, ε{lunate}, namely r0(fm) ≈ 11 ε{lunate}-1(MeV).
