Abstract

In the reported experiments, the continuous production of 1,1-diphenyl-2,2,2-trichloroethane (DTE) from chloral and benzene was studied. In the paper are discussed the optimum reaction parameters. With the help of the determined reaction rate constants the mathematical model was derived describing the overall reaction process consisting of two consecutive second order main reactions and a parallel, first order side reaction. The mathematical model of the cascade reactor was derived and the optimum parameters were calculated, using these values the best yield was succeeded and purest DTE was produced. The results obtained with a bench scale reactor cascade showed the applicability of the mathematical model describing the process with the needed accuracy.
