In addition to the statistical evaluation of measurements on biological processes there is an increasing demand for the system theoretical discussion, mathematical description, the revealing of dependence of an effect upon a cause and for the quantitative determination of these processes. The article consists of three parts. The first part deals with the mathematical bases of compartment analysis, the second with computer simulation and the third with identification. Practical examples refer to application.
