In the present work, systematic investigation of the general corrosion state of the heat exchanger tubes originating from 11 different steam generators of the Paks NPP was performed. While the passivity of the inside surface of the stainless steel tube specimens was studied by voltammetry, the morphology and chemical composition of the oxide-layer formed on the surface were analyzed by SEM-EDX methods. Based on the measured corrosion characteristics (corrosion rate, thickness and chemical composition of the protective oxide-layer) the steel tube samples can be classified into two sub-groups. It is assumed that the chemical decontamination of the heat echanger tubes does exert a detrimental effect on the corrosion state of the steel surfaces.
