Composites in the infrastructure

Abstract

Composite materials are being increasingly used in civil engineering projects that are involved in developing infrastructure. Composite materials are being used in civil engineering projects, due to their better material properties. Some of the significant material properties of these composite materials, include high strength to weight ratio, better corrosion resistance, high fatigue strength, and non-magnetic properties. These materials also present some challenges for composite structures. Composite materials are brittle, while traditional materials are ductile that present a range of significant challenges for composite structures. Structural designers need to consider specific properties of composite materials, while using them in construction projects.
